When was the last time you had no internet for more than a few hours?

This past week has been quite a struggle with the internet in Costa Rica. Our hotel provides us with a connection, but the reliability is about as solid as using a t-shirt to carry water. For the last three days, we’ve been virtually disconnected. Connections have been limited to less than an hour per day.

Thankfully, the Spanish Institute has a great connection, so I’ve been able to go up there to work, but it’s been completely impossible to do any writing and emailing at night after the kids go to bed. We spoken to Pino (the owner of our hotel) and he has been extremely apologetic, but it sounds like they have been having issues with their routers as well as the actual connection with the internet. Gotta love it.

At first I was pretty frustrated. Actually I was REALLY frustrated. But, I’ve come to learn that this is just part of life and it is what it is. If I’m desperate, I can run up to the school to connect, otherwise, I can just wait.. sometimes days 🙂

So if we vanish for a few days and don’t write blog posts or respond to emails, don’t worry about us, we’re fine, we just aren’t connected to the world. It’s a little refreshing. If this was just a vacation, I don’t think I’d think twice about it.

  1. Welcome to much of the rest of the world! 🙂

  2. Reminds me of Panama! We take a lot for granted here in the good ole USA!

  3. Yes – This has been the only hard part of the integration into our new world. The rest has been seamless… 🙂
