I woke up this morning at 5 am and had to breathe a sigh of relief, it’s the weekend. No school today. Funny to be saying that since school is Surfing and playing. Regardless though, no matter what we are doing, non stop learning, physical activity and action is tiring. Our day today should be much more mellow, and I think that’s a good thing for all of us š
I haven’t written the last two nights out of sheer exhaustion, but there is so much to say. Ā It’ll just have to come in pieces.
Believe it or not, work was actually stressful this week as DigitalPTO.com had a database flub and messed up a few of the premium services for our users. It took an entire day to restore services, which was frustrating, but at least I was out surfing while the database was getting repaired. Certainly took the stress away for a few hours. The good news is that I was able to find out just how well I can work from Costa Rica. It wasn’t too bad, other than the fact that our internet connection is crap down here. It works fine, but every 10 minutes or so it just stops. Not for long, maybe 30 seconds, but it enough to hang things up and cause “page not found” issues which gets very annoying when you’re in a hurry. I’m learning that this will just be a piece of life out here and I’m starting to get used to the mini-outages and delays.Ā BelieveĀ me, it’s worth it.
Communication has been tough though with the crappy connection. Ben was trying to FaceTime with Wiley (one of his BFF’s from home) last night and they got disconnected 50 times. Ultimately we couldn’t get back connected for a while. The same thing happened when I was trying to skype with my parents. The connection seems to beĀ inconsistent, so I’m not sure if this is normal, and I’ve seen some good days, or if that was extreme and I’ve seen the worst days. We’ll find out as we continue to work and live here.
The last three days have been nothing short of amazing. We’ve had a few kid (sibling) meltdowns the last few days, but what can we expect? We ripped our kids from their environment and tossed them into a whole new one. They LOVE it here, but it’s got to be a little stressful for their little minds and bodies. We’re trying to be as sympathetic as possible š
We will be writing more specifics this weekend, but for now, let’s just leave it at this. Costa Rica has exceeded our expectations a thousand times over. All 5 of us are as happy as we’ve ever been. Especially as a family. Wow. Wow. Wow.
