About Us

All About Us

After reading the “About Us” that was written in 2011 before we ever stepped foot in Costa Rica and the revised About Us from 2015, it seems to be time for another update in 2019.

We first came to Tamarindo, Costa Rica in 2011 with our kids for 7 months and we fell in love with it. Since that time, we have been back every year for between 3 to 6 months each time. In 2015/16 we spend the entire school year in Tamarindo and since then we have started coming back down to Tamarindo for the Fall Semester of school and heading back to the USA for the 2nd Semester.

The kids are still going to TIDE Academy (since 2012) and are now in 8th grade, 10th grade, and 12th grade. They go to TIDE for the 1st semester of school and then their assigned public school back in Colorado for the 2nd semester. Ben & Jacob are competitive swimmers on the High School Swim Team each spring and Abby is looking forward to heading to High School next year. Ben will be moving on to college next Fall (2020) so we look forward to seeing how our adventures will change and evolve as things start to change in our household.

I (Matt) still work online and my situation makes it very easy to be transient with my work because it is 100% online. I am also fully emersed in my photography passion and run Tamarindo Films shooting photos and videos down in Costa Rica each Fall of people and real estate. You can check out my work at: https://tamarindofilms.com/

Erin has grown into a YouTube superstar (Matt words) and has over 130,000 subscribers to her channel as of 2019. You can find her online at https://www.youtube.com/fiveparksyoga

Erin & I also have been hosting 2 Yoga Retreats in Nosara, Costa Rica each year since 2017. Erin’s the yogi and I’m the organizer and coordinator. You can learn more about her Yoga Retreats at: https://fiveparksyoga.com/yoga-retreats/

The kids are now in Middle School & High School (and soon college!) and love living in both locations. Our Spanish continues to get better and better every day, and almost every day leads to a new experience living down here. We have roots in both of our homes at this point and very close friends in both Tamarindo and back in Colorado. We’re glad you stopped by for a visit!

About Us in 2015

After reading the “About Us” that was written in 2011 before we ever stepped foot in Costa Rica, I felt that it was probably time to do a little update. My how things have changed and grown since then, us, our kids, our culture, our dreams.

We first came to Tamarindo, Costa Rica in 2011 with our kids for 7 months and we fell in love with it. Since that time, we have been back every year in the spring for between 3 to 6 months each time. This year (2015-2016) we have decided to spend the entire year down here.

The kids have been going to the TIDE Academy (www.TideAcademy.com) for the past 4 years (our first year we “homeschooled” them) and they love it. I’ve never seen all three of our kids so excited to go to school.

I (Matt) still work online and my situation makes it very easy to be transient with my work because it is 100% online. Erin is still teaching yoga in both Colorado and Costa Rica and has become a YouTube sensation with her Five Parks Yoga online classes that we film multiple times a week from Colorado and Costa Rica (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrtTMWDx4u1dVKMpXNhjwpA)

The kids are now in Elementary school and Middle School and love living in both locations. Our spanish is getting better and better every day, and almost every day leads to a new experience living down here. We are really excited to be spending this entire school year in Costa Rica and also look forward to some time back in Colorado for the holidays.

About Us Pre Costa Rica in 2011

circa 2011 – 2 months before we moved to Costa Rica for the first time.

We are a family of 5 from Colorado. We have three kids, Ben, Jacob, and Abby. We are your typical American family. We live in the burbs, and love it (most of the time). The kids all play piano or guitar, they have a few extra activities and go to a public elementary school. Matt works from home and is the president of the kids PTA, and Erin is a stay-at-home Mom as well as a yoga instructor in our neighborhood. We are extremely involved in our community.

We have been dreaming about taking off and stepping away from the rat race for close to 3 years now, and after a lot of debating, planning and saving we have finally been able to make this dream a reality.

Matt will continue to work from Costa Rica and we will also be home-schooling the kids so that they will be ready to move onto the next grade level when we return. The work/school thing has been a pre-trip stresser, but we think we’ve just about got it dialed in at this point so that it will be a part of life, but not the focus of life for the next 6 months. We all look forward to that.

Thank you for visiting our site, we are happy to have you here.
