Goodbye to “The Canadians”

Today we were sad to have to say goodbye to our friends Mark, Carolyn, James, Annie and Christopher whom we now lovingly refer to as “The Canadians”. We have enjoyed spending many hours a day with them for the past three weeks and after so many wonderful shared moments, holidays and events, we feel very sad to see them go back to Winnipeg. Our time with them was only three weeks, but in the big picture, 75% of our time in Costa Rica thus far was spent with them. They have become a huge part of our experience in Costa Rica as not a day went by that we didn’t do something with them.

We are all thankful that we got to spend Christmas Eve, New Years Eve, Carolyn’s Birthday, a trip to Avellanas, a trip to Rincon de Vieja and so much more with them.

They were the perfect beach companions, the perfect “drinks by the pool” friends, and a great addition to our 10 feet traveling. The kids are noticeably sad this afternoon, as are Erin and I. I know we will continue to make new friends (and continue to enjoy our current friends in CR), but “The Canadians” will hold a very special place in our hearts. We know we will see them again soon, whether it means a trip to Canada for us, or a trip to Colorado for them, or even a reunion in Costa Rica in the near future.

Last night we enjoyed a final dinner with our friends at Copacabana, and as always, we had an absolute blast.

Thanks Mark, Carolyn, James, Annie and Christopher, you were SO much fun to spend time with. We’ll miss you!

  1. I’m sure you guys will really miss your Canadian friends. The kids looked like they were very similar in ages, so I’m sure that Abby, Jake and Ben will really miss their companionship.

A trip to Canada would be fun! Which part of Canada are they from? It’s an incredibly beautiful part of the world. There were TONS and TONS of Canadians visiting Maui, too. They apparently love to travel.

    Hugs to all,
    Yaya

  2. Now you know how we felt when you left…. 🙂

  3. I feel sad for you all. I know that having friends made your CR experience even richer. I know that there will be more special friends along the way – that’s what you guys do best!

  4. Thanks soooooo much for sharing this Costa Rican experience with us. We absolutely loved spending time with you guys. We thought about you all day today, wondering what beach you were on, where you went for dinner and what shells you were collecting! We wish we could be there with you for the next six months. We know you will make lots more friends so don’t forget us – Lake Winnipeg is a really great place to water ski!!! Catch some waves for us.
    Love,
    The Canadians
