TIDE Surf Practice from the Boys Point of View

Ben and Jacob both wanted to write something for the blog yesterday, and they opted to do a little writing about the TIDE Academy’s Morning Surf Program before school. Enjoy!

TIDE Surf Morning Practice – by Ben

FullSizeRender-1Waking up at 5:00 am to go surfing is definitely worth it. Especially if it’s with TIDE. Last year if you went to the morning practice there would be no one there. However, this year almost all of the low tide kids are ready to hit the beech. We also get feedback on our surfing from a guy named Isaac. He is in the top 10 in Costa Rican surfers, he won the CGS tour, and he is helping me and some other kids out. The beginner surfers get some help from Chelsea, the schools principal. Also, my dad films us while we surf and then we watch it after school. Before we get in the water we do lots of stretching and then…

We hit the waves.
Every other week the tide is high which can mean great waves. The tide depends on the moon so the tide changes every day. There are two surf groups; one group are the beginners and the other one is the advanced group. I’m in the advanced group. We surf for two hours and then it’s off to school.
After school we have an after school program called “surf analysis”. In Surf analysis we practice our stances on a fake surf board sometimes. Other times we talk about surf etiquette. That is basically the rules of surfing. After we do one of those we watch our surfing that we did before school. There is something awesome about surfing with your school for p.e instead of playing basket ball in sweaty gym clothes.

TIDE Surfing – by Jacob

Tide surfing is really fun!

Our school, Tide Academy, has a surfing program that we do on Tuesday mornings. Here is what happens from5:45 to 7:45…..

We wake up at 5:00 in the morning then we hit the beach at 5:45. When we first get there we would say hi to all of the families that are surfing then we go with our coach Issac. Issac is one of the best surfers in Costa Rica. We would run along the beach to warm up. Then we stretch and jump. Issac goes into the water with us and coaches us from there. The beginners surf with our principal Chelsea and other teachers. We surf from 6:00 to 7:45. The beginners get out of the water at 7:00. At 7:45 the advanced group which is with me and Ben and a few others hop in our cars and our parents drive us to school!
