Last Day of School – Saying Goodbye

We have the most amazing school on the planet. Seriously. If I had to pick the one thing that I am most sad to leave, it is this school – hands down.

Yesterday Erin and I went to both Ben and Jacob’s classes (Abby’s is today!) and let the kids show the Costa Rica video we made to their friends. It was so fun to watch with them and see the wonder and excitement on all of the kids faces, and the pride from my boys. They were humble yet noticeably proud of what they are about to do. Their classmates asked so many questions afterwards, it was awesome. The most common question? “Can you take me in your suitcase?” 🙂

Over the last 4 years, this school has become our family. Aside from home, I think the kids and I spend more time at school than anywhere else. Yesterday felt like the culmination (to date at least) of that family. When we lived in Maui it was referred to as an Ohana. We will miss our Meiklejohn Ohana. Deeply. It was so touching to celebrate a little yesterday and start the goodbyes. We have felt so supported by the staff of MJ I can’t even begin to express what it has meant to us. I would like to personally call out and thank Renae, Lisa, Jeanne & Andy. You have made the most uncertain part of our journey so much smoother and comfortable with your support and ideas.

I know that we will be back to our school next year, but the hard part about leaving is that we have three of the most amazing teachers of all time this year. It’s hard to leave that. Each of our teachers has enveloped our kids, taken them under their wings and helped them grow so much already in 3 short months. I will forever be grateful for this amazing team.

Today after school we will be withdrawing the kids from school. It’s a big deal. It’s the first official step on this incredible journey we are about to take. I just hope I can keep my sh%t together 🙂

Thank you Meiklejohn. So much.
